Position:
Senior Database Administrator
Location: Pittsburgh, PA
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 5-years experience as
an Oracle and/or SQL Server DBA in a mission-critical production environment
on Windows and/or Unix platforms. This includes
a strong background in SQL/T-SQL, PL/SQL, Windows and/or Unix scripting, backup and recovery, performance tuning, troubleshooting,
and export/import/bcp utilities.
- Minimum 5-years experience with
database management and monitoring software, such as Oracle
and/or SQL Server Enterprise Manager and Nagios.
- Experience with Oracle versions
8.x, 9.x and 10.x and/or Microsoft SQL Server 2000 and 2005.
- Experience with Microsoft toolsets,
including Office, Outlook and Remote Desktop.
- Experience with Unix toolsets, including SSH and VNC.
- Experience with hardware specification/design/troubleshooting
as it pertains to storage (NAS/SAN/shared storage/RAID),
server design, and capacity planning.
- Good working knowledge and experience
with Windows and/or Unix environments.
- Good technical documentation skills
and ability to write proper customer correspondence and
executive level literature.
- Excellent communication skills
as it relates to corresponding with customers via email
and telephone.
- Firm
grasp of concepts as it relates to additional options of
Oracle and/or SQL Server. Candidate should know what
these tools are, how they work, and what they are used for.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or computer-related field.
DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
- Oracle® Certified Professional (OCP) certification.
- Microsoft® Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA) certification.
- Experience with Oracle Applications (Financials, HR, etc.), Oracle
Application Server or Oracle Portal.
- Experience with Oracle Data Guard/Standby Database, Oracle Real Application Clusters,
Oracle Fail Safe, Oracle Advanced Replication, Oracle Text or Partitioning.
- Experience with SQL Server Replication, Log Shipping or Full
Text Search.
- Microsoft® Certified System Administrator (MCSA) certification.
- System administration experience on Windows and/or Unix platforms, including O/S installation and configuration, applying patches, user management, performance tuning and troubleshooting.
- Network administration experience including management of Cisco VPN devices and configuring peer-to-peer tunnels.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide 24x7 support for mission-critical
database systems.
- Perform installations, upgrades
and apply patches to databases running on Windows and Unix platforms.
- Implementation and management
of database objects including data files, tables, indexes,
triggers, integrity constraints, and database authorizations.
- Extensive performance
tuning against mission-critical databases.
- Completion of physical data model
and physical database design tasks including DDL generation.
- Design database performance specifications,
database backup and recovery plans, and database performance/capacity
models including disk space capacity plans.
- Perform advanced database maintenance
activities, such as partitioning, index reorganization,
transporting tablespaces, and document search management.
- Perform database security and
user management activities, including defining policies
and procedures, implementing virtual private databases,
and database encryption.
- Assist in recommendation and
design phases of database architectures including hardware,
software, and the environment architectures thereof.
- Willingness to learn new skills
as it pertains to Oracle and SQL Server, be able to grasp
those concepts quickly, and implement them for customers.
- Extensive communications with
customers and internal staff.
